Diwali is the Hindu 'festival of lights' which celebrates the New Year. This year Diwali fell on the same day as Bonfire Night. Silver Birch and Willow class had a lovely time finding out all about Diwali with Mrs Patel. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita which explains the origins of Diwali, we also looked at some special clothes that might be worn for the celebrations and were even lucky enough to eat some Indian snacks.
Otley Ashfield Primary School Blog gives you an insight into some of the things that happen at our school. We use the site to publish our work, support parents through our phonics work and generally to give you a flavour of the fun things that happen at Ashfield. We would love it if you made a comment about what you see!
I think that celebrating different people for their different cultures, tradions and religions is a great way to find out more about that country and it's relegions. (Especially when you get to dress up and eat food from that country)
